Playful little table lamp, design W.H.Gispen, executed by Giso, Culemborg / the Netherlands ca. 1960

Willem Hendrik Gispen, founder of the Gispen company around 1915 has created this lamp, which was introduced in the 1930s. It was then reintroduced in the 1960s, as part of the now famous GISO line. This orange lamp is one these editions.

The upper part slides up and down on the vertical metal arm. Hence the name of this lamp: Schuivertje, which translates as Slider, or small Slider. The orange metal parts conceal a cylinder of thick opal glass. You can vary the distance between the two metal end caps to let less or more light through.
